Newspaper Endorsements for Johnson Point to Leadership, Willingness to Work Across Party Lines

Marietta, OH (10/27/14): Bill Johnson has received numerous newspaper endorsements across Eastern and Southeastern Ohio in his bid for re-election.

The newspapers endorsing Johnson include the Youngstown Vindicator, Steubenville Herald Star, Parkersburg News and Sentinel, Wheeling Intelligencer, Salem News, East Liverpool Review, the Martins Ferry Times Leader and the two candidates’ hometown paper – the Marietta Times.

The endorsements establish a theme; Congressman Johnson is hard working, shows leadership, and is willing to work across party lines to get things done.

Bill Johnson called the endorsement process humbling and gratifying.

“This district is massive, and while I try to meet as many people as possible, I can’t meet everyone,” Johnson said. “So the endorsement process whereby these newspapers vet both candidates, and agree that I should continue my important work, is both humbling and gratifying.”

Johnson’s opponent Jennifer Garrison has received no newspaper endorsements to date.

Johnson’s campaign manager Sarah Poulton said that the words in the endorsements matter.

“The editorial boards of these newspapers met with the candidates and chose their words carefully before unanimously supporting Bill Johnson,” Poulton said. “Words and phrases like ‘advocate,’ ‘record of service,’ ‘leader,’ ‘work across the aisle,’ show that Bill Johnson has the experience, and is committed to finding solutions that help the people of Eastern and Southeastern Ohio.”
